Beginning in 2023, the Himeshima WAKU WAKU Programs grew from several years of dialogue between Elgueda Ward Studio and people connected to Himeshima. The Chair Project gathered memories of the island, while The Island Atlas invited people to imagine its future.
WAKU WAKU carried these conversations into shared experience through workshops, storytelling, making, environmental learning, food, and exchange. Developed with the people, places, ideas, and materials present at each gathering, the programs connect memory and local knowledge with new relationships and possibilities for Himeshima’s future.
2023年に始まった「姫島わくわくプログラム」は、Elgueda Ward Studioと姫島に関わる人々との数年間にわたる対話から生まれました。チェア・プロジェクトでは島の記憶に耳を傾け、《島のアトラス》では姫島の未来について語り合いました。
WAKU WAKUでは、そこから生まれた言葉やアイデアを、ワークショップ、物語、ものづくり、環境についての学び、食、交流などの共同体験へとつなげています。その時に集まる人、場所、素材とともに活動を育てながら、島の記憶や知恵を新しい関係と未来の可能性へつないでいます。

Creating with Gathered Materials ／ 集まった素材でつくる
Materials found along the shore, donated, or already at hand became starting points for making, conversation, and rediscovering the island. 浜辺で拾ったものや、寄付されたもの、その場にある素材を手がかりに、ものづくり、対話、島の再発見へとつなげました。
Sharing Island Stories ／ 島の物語を共有する
Images, memories, and conversation create opportunities to share different experiences of Himeshima. 写真や記憶、対話を通して、それぞれが持つ姫島の体験を共有します。
Intergenerational Creativity ／ 世代をつなぐ創造
Children, adults, and older residents create together, sharing ideas and experiences across generations.
子どもから大人、年配の方まで、世代を越えて一緒に作り、アイデアや経験を分かち合います。

WAKU WAKU experiences bring people together to share knowledge and ideas, creating space for new connections and excitement to grow.「わくわく体験」は、人から人へ知恵やアイデア、経験を分かち合い、新しいつながりやわくわくが広がっていく場をつくります。
Learning from the Island ／ 島から学ぶ
The island itself becomes a place for learning through local knowledge, observation, and conversation. 地域の知恵に耳を傾け、観察し、語り合うことで、島そのものが学びの場になります。
