EWSが姫島で継続してきた活動と、城山採石場跡地への長期的な探究から発展
GEO–OASIS explored the former Shiroyama quarry through geology, field exploration, photography, sound, frottage, cyanotype, and other forms of documentation and expression. Participants encountered a landscape shaped by both extraction and natural regrowth, considering its geological history, human activity, ecology, and future possibilities.
Observations and experiences from the site were developed into photographs, sound, images, and other forms of expression. A work by Ari Urban, created specifically for the former Shiroyama quarry, was screened on site, bringing artistic expression into direct dialogue with the landscape. The project was later shared through an exhibition and with the Mayor’s Office, creating further opportunities to reflect on the quarry and its future.
GEO–OASISでは、地質について学びながら現地を歩き、写真、音、フロッタージュ、サイアノタイプなど、さまざまな記録や表現を通して城山採石場跡地を探りました。参加者は、採掘の痕跡と自然の再生が共存する風景に触れながら、地質の歴史、人の営み、生態系、そしてこの場所のこれからについて考えました。
現地での観察や体験は、写真、音、イメージなどの表現へと展開されました。また、城山採石場跡地のためにARI URBANが制作した作品を現地で上映し、芸術表現と採石場の風景が直接交わる機会となりました。その後、展示や村長室で活動の記録や成果を共有し、採石場とその未来についてさらに考える機会へとつなげました。

Experiencing the Quarry ／ 採石場を体感する
Walking through the quarry allowed participants to experience its terrain, vegetation, exposed stone, and traces of human activity firsthand.
採石場を実際に歩き、地形、植生、露出した岩肌、そして人の営みの痕跡を身体で感じました。
Documenting & Sharing ／ 記録と共有
The exhibition brought experiences from the quarry into a shared space, where photography, cyanotype, and sound opened them to new viewers and conversation.
展示では、採石場での体験を写真、サイアノタイプ、音を通して共有し、その風景を新たな人々と見つめ、語り合う機会へとつなげました。

Presentation & Discussion with the Mayor’s Office ／ 村長室での活動報告と意見交換
Project documentation and observations were presented to the Mayor’s Office, opening further discussion about the quarry’s future.
