WHO WE ARE
私たちについて

The Creative Culture Institute (CCI) is a nonprofit organization established in 2007, rooted in the creative practice of Elgueda Ward Studio. Based in Mihama, Aichi, CCI works primarily in Mihama and Himeshima Village, Oita, while supporting long-term projects in Japan and internationally.

Through art, dialogue, environmental responsibility, education, research, and documentation, CCI creates opportunities to share local knowledge, learn together, and explore new possibilities for people and places.

特定非営利活動法人 The Creative Culture Institute（CCI）は、Elgueda Ward Studioの創作実践を背景に、2007年に設立された非営利組織です。愛知県美浜町を拠点に、美浜町と大分県姫島村を主な活動地域として、日本国内外で長期的なプロジェクトを支え、展開しています。

アート、対話、環境への責任、教育、リサーチ、記録を通して、地域の知識を分かち合い、共に学び、人や場所の新たな可能性を探る機会をつくっています。

THE MOUNTAIN PLAZA /
山の広場®
(2000-)

An outdoor ceramic amphitheater sustained through long-term care as a shared place for human expression, community gatherings, learning, and encounters with nature.

長期的な手入れを重ねながら、さまざまな表現、地域の集まり、学び、自然との出会いが重なる共有の場として維持されている野外焼き物劇場。

姫島村との関わり

A long-term collaboration in Himeshima Village developed through dialogue, workshops, documentation, and shared experiences, bringing together local knowledge, culture, memories, and everyday life.

対話、ワークショップ、記録、共に過ごす体験を重ねながら、地域の知恵や文化、記憶、日々の暮らしをつないでいく、姫島村での長期的な協働。

THE CHAIR PROJECT/
チェア・プロジェクト
(2020–)

A traveling dialogue and archive project developed across Japan, the United States, Chile, and Germany. The same chair travels from place to place, inviting people to share memories of home and personal experiences.

日本、アメリカ、チリ、ドイツへと展開してきた対話と記録のプロジェクト。同じ一脚の椅子が各地を旅し、そこに座ることをきっかけに、故郷の記憶やそれぞれの経験が語られていきます。

THE ISLAND ATLAS: OUR WORDS FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR HOMELAND
島のアトラス：私たちの言葉は故郷の未来
(2022)

A dialogue and mapping project in which islanders imagined the future of their hometown by adding drawings and words to maps of the island, later brought together as one collective atlas.

島民が故郷の未来について語り合い、地図に描き込みや言葉を重ね、その思いをひとつの「アトラス」としてまとめたプロジェクト。

CCI maintains The Mountain Plaza in Mihama as a shared place for human expression, environmental care, community exchange, and learning.

HIMESHIMA, OITA / 大分県姫島村

LONG-TERM ENGAGEMENT / 継続的な関わり

Through dialogue, workshops, documentation, shared experiences, and artistic practice, CCI has developed long-term relationships with island residents and local collaborators.

SUSTAINING THE WORK
活動を支える仕組み

CCI’s independently operated KIC English-language education program is one of the organization’s financial pillars. Donations, grants, volunteer support, and community cooperation also help sustain CCI’s long-term artistic and public-interest activities.

CCIが自主運営する英語教育プログラムKICは、活動を支える財政的基盤の一つとなっています。また、寄付、助成、ボランティア、地域からの協力によって、CCIの長期的な芸術活動や公益的な取り組みが支えられています。

People can take part in CCI by joining activities, volunteering, collaborating, becoming a member, making a donation, contributing documentation or specialist knowledge, and sharing local experience.
