ONGOING PRACTICE ／ 継続的な実践
UNAUTHORIZED RESPONSIBILITY is an ongoing Elgueda Ward Studio practice that begins by listening to a place rather than deciding what to make. When neglect or environmental damage is visible and no one has assumed responsibility, a small act of care may sometimes begin before formal authorization. Unauthorized does not mean unaccountable: each action must avoid harm, remain attentive to people and ecology, and respond to what the place itself makes possible.
UNAUTHORIZED RESPONSIBILITY〈許可なき責任〉は、「何をつくるか」を決めるのではなく、まず場所に耳を澄ませることから始まる、エルゲダ・ウォード・スタジオの継続的な実践です。放置や環境への損傷が見られながら、個人や組織、既存の仕組みの中でまだ誰も責任を担っていないとき、正式な許可より先に、小さなケアが始まることがあります。ここでいう「許可なき」とは「責任がない」という意味ではありません。人や環境を傷つけず、その場所と人々に注意深く向き合い、場所そのものが示す可能性に応答することを大切にしています。

TEKOTSU SAKURA ／ 鉄骨桜
Handa, Aichi ／ 愛知県半田市 · 2021–present
Since 2021, EWS has periodically cared for this neglected corner site in Handa, beginning with clearing overgrowth and removing dumped waste around a wild cherry tree. What began anonymously has continued through seasonal maintenance, planting, lantern interventions, and growing community involvement.
2021年よりEWSは、半田市の放置されたこの街角で、桜の周囲の草刈りや投棄されたゴミの撤去からケアを始めました。匿名で始まった活動は、季節ごとの整備や植栽、ランタンによる介入、地域の人々との関わりへと続いています。
REHABILITATING SHIROYAMA ／ 城山の再生
Himeshima, Oita ／ 大分県姫島村 · 2021–present
At the former Shiroyama quarry in Himeshima, EWS continues to observe the geology, vegetation, traces of extraction, and changing conditions of the site while learning from island residents and specialists. REHABILITATING SHIROYAMA explores how long-term care and limited intervention might support new ecological, cultural, and social possibilities within the existing landscape.
姫島の城山採石場跡地で、EWSは島民や専門家から学びながら、地質、植生、採掘の痕跡、そして変化し続ける場所の状態を観察しています。《城山の再生》では、既存の風景の中で、長期的なケアと必要最小限の介入から、環境的・文化的・社会的な新たな可能性を探っています。
