CHALKLINE grew from a question of scale. In 180 TO 1, action was contained within a 10 × 10 cm sheet of paper. In CHALKLINE, that same square expands from centimeters to meters: 10 × 10 cm becomes 10 × 10 m, moving the work from the scale of the hand into the scale of the body and surrounding space.
Drawn temporarily on the ground, the line establishes form and boundary without becoming permanent. The enlargement changes how the work is encountered: what could once be held and manipulated must now be walked in and around, viewed across distance, and experienced spatially. Through a simple shift in scale, CHALKLINE explores drawing as an action in space and the relationship between line, ground, body, and impermanence.
《CHALKLINE》は、スケールへの問いから生まれました。《180 TO 1》では、行為は10 × 10 cmの一枚の紙の中で展開されていました。《CHALKLINE》では、その正方形をセンチメートルからメートルへと拡張します。10 × 10 cmから10 × 10 mへ。手のひらのスケールだったものが、身体と周囲の空間のスケールへと移っていきます。
地面に一時的に描かれた線は、形と境界をつくりながらも、恒久的なものにはなりません。スケールが変わることで、作品との関わり方も変化します。手に持ち、操作することのできたものは、今度はその中や周囲を歩き、距離をとって眺め、空間として体験するものになります。《CHALKLINE》は、シンプルなスケールの変化を通して、空間におけるドローイングという行為と、線、地面、身体、儚さの関係を探ります。
