String Memory brings thread and light into the historic interior of the Former Nakano Hanroku Residence. Lines extending through the space are activated by programmed illumination, revealing intersections, distances, and connections that change with light and the viewer’s position.
The work brings together the physical qualities of thread with the experience of light. As lines cross, connect, disappear, and reappear within the architecture, the room itself becomes part of the installation. The recurring ideas of thread / 糸 and musubi / 結び suggest connection—not as a fixed form, but as something continually made and perceived through space.
《String Memory》は、歴史ある旧中埜半六邸の室内に、糸と光を展開したインスタレーションです。空間を横切る線にプログラム制御された光が重なり、交差、距離、つながりが、光や見る位置によって変化して現れます。
糸という物質と光の体験が重なり、線が交差し、結ばれ、消え、再び現れることで、建物そのものも作品の一部となります。**「糸」と「結び」**を手がかりに、つながりを固定された形ではなく、空間のなかで絶えず生まれ、感じられるものとして捉えた作品です。
